Shawn Mendes is transformed into an animated, singing crocodile in the new trailer for Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.The film is based on the children’s picture book series of the same name. The books are written by Bernard Waber and focus on the city life of a crocodile named Lyle who lives with a human family named the Primms in their brownstone apartment.
Now, a trailer for Lyle, Lyle, Crocodilehas arrived with Mendes in the lead. Mendes voices the bumbling, friendly reptile, who is animated within this live-action hybrid film. He initially stuns the new apartment tenants, who are taken aback by the appearance of a singing crocodile bathing jovially in their bathtub. But by the end of the trailer, it seems like the humans around Lyle have warmed up to him, and Lyle is seen adventuring around the city streets with the joyful son of the tenants behind him.

The music Mendes sings for Lyle, Lyle, Crocodileis written by Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, the powerhouse songwriting duo behind The Greatest Showman and La La Land. Will Speck and Josh Gordon team up to direct the film. Joining Mendes in the cast are Crazy Rich Asians' Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Javier Bardem, and Winslow Fegley.
23-year-old Mendes is new to the acting world, but has had immense success as a singer already, helming huge hit songs such as “In My Blood,” “Stitches,” and “Señorita.” Voicing an animated crocodile is a step outside Mendes’ usual fare, but an exciting one nonetheless. Audiences will get a glimpse of what Mendes has to offer for the beloved Lyle come fall when Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is released in theaters on October 7.
