Even though 2021 marked 30 years since the very first Sonic game, the celebrations have spilled over into 2022. Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers, both of which were announced as part of Sonic's birthday celebrations, are still to come, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been breaking records at the box office. Now Sega has announced the next Sonic Central, which likely means even more big news about the blue blur is about to break.
Sonic fans haven't been given much time to prepare for the presentation either. Sega revealed via Sonic's official Twitter account that the Central will take place later today at 12 pm EST. What it doesn't divulge is what exactly those who plan on tuning in can expect to see. Just “a sneak peek at some of our upcoming projects, partnerships, and events”.

Despite nothing concrete being revealed ahead of time, there are a handful of projects that seem likely to make appearances during the Central. Sonic Frontiers, an open-world Sonic game that could be here before the end of 2022, might well get a release date. That's if Sega hasn't been swayed into delaying the game following the negative feedback its gameplay has been receiving for the past week.
It's also only a little more than two weeks until Sonic Origins launches on all major platforms. Although most, if not all, of the information that is going to be revealed about the collection is likely already out there by this point, Origins could get a new trailer. Sega also announced Sonic would be appearing in a number of other games during last year's Central, and also revealed news about the hedgehog's mobile games, so expect some smaller announcements too.
