According to PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba and vice president Hideki Kamiya, the cancelled action role-playing game Scalebound could potentially be revived. The beloved developer is known for creating intense action games such as Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nier: Automata. PlatinumGames and Xbox were also collaborating on an action role-playing game years ago, but Scalebound's cancellation by Xbox was unfortunately announced in 2017.
PlatinumGames is most well-known for fast-paced action titles, but Scalebound was meant to be a unique project for the Japanese developer. Created by Hideki Kamiya, who directed beloved games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, the title would put unusual emphasis on graphics and role-play mechanics. In Scalebound players would take control of a warrior named Drew while being constantly accompanied by a dragon companion named Thuban. The highly-anticipated title was unfortunately cancelled in 2017, with many PlatinumGames fans putting blame for the game's failure on Microsoft. While Microsoft Gaming's Phil Spenser had previously stated that the project is dead, he stated in August 2020 that Scalebound could come back if gamers demand it.

In an interview with IGN Japan, translated by Video Games Chronicle, Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya discuss the potential future of Scalebound. Despite the project's cancellation, Inaba states that PlatinumGames would like to have a discussion with Microsoft about continuing development on the title. Kamiya explains that a lot of work was done on the project, and he implores Phil Spenser to consider a revival. While this is by no means an official confirmation
