Making or receiving payments have become far easier with the help of digitalisation. You can send money now with the help of phone numbers, bank details and even by simply scanning a QR code. Here we will talk how it is very dangerous to receive money via QR code scanning. In fact, you cannot receive money by QR code scanning. If you are a customer of State Bank of India (SBI), the bank has issued an advisory for you. SBI has asked its customers not to scan QR Code for receiving money. It has also asked its customers to remember safety tips while making UPI payments.

It can be known that you may end up losing money if you scan the QR code sent by someone to you in order to receive money. With the increase in the number of online payments the cases of online fraud and cyber crime are also increasing rapidly. Some of the safety tips shared by SBI to keep in mind while making UPI payments have been mentioned below.
UPI PIN is required only for transfer of money and not for receiving.
Always verify the mobile number, name, and UPI ID before sending any money.
Never share UPI PIN with any one. And do not confuse UPI PIN for an OTP (One Time Password).
The scanner should preferably be used for fund transfer.
Do not seek resolution from other than official sources.
