Sarah Michelle Gellar has admitted that she and co-star Alyson Hannigan had heated arguments while filming the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy, created by Joss Whedon, ran from 1997 to 2003. The series tells the tale of Buffy Summers (Gellar), a teenager who discovers she is the Slayer: the one chosen by fate to protect humankind against vampires and other demons. Over the years, Buffy was a major hit with audiences and critics alike, releasing several groundbreaking episodes and winning two Primetime Emmys over its seven-season run. Buffy's fanbase is still growing today despite the show being over for nearly two decades.
Author Evan Ross Katz has recently released a book entitled Into Every Generation a Slayer is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Heart, which details the behind-the-scenes story of creating this landmark show. Of course, a considerable amount of the book is dedicated to the now revealed transgressions of series creator Whedon. Since the summer of 2021, many cast and crew members of Buffy and other Whedon projects have been coming forward about how the writer is often abusive to his female coworkers. The accusation has followed Whedon to his work on the DCEU's Justice League. However, Katz's book does not focus exclusively on this aspect of the Buffy story.

In an interview for Katz's book (as reported by Yahoo!), Gellar has admitted to other incidents on the set of the iconic series.
