Roller Champions' reveal from Ubisoft in 2019 promised a competitive multiplayer game inspired by a much more niche sport in roller derby. Now, rumors have begun to circulate about the future of the game past its current season.
During a recent episode of Giant Bomb's «The Xbox Era» podcast, journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that Roller Champions' days were apparently numbered. Grubb reported that Ubisoft was planning to cancel the game following the conclusion of its third competitive season after a recent string of Ubisoft cancellations. The roller derby-inspired game has struggled to catch on with fans since its launch, maintaining low viewership numbers on Twitch. However, a recent update from Roller Champions in response to the rumors claims a cancellation is not in the works.
Ubisoft is Reportedly Cancelling Roller Champions
An update posted to the official Roller Champions Twitter clears the air surrounding the rumors, directly stating that the game is not being canceled and «Ubisoft fully supports it.» The post goes on to detail how Roller Champions intends to address some players' concerns. Roller Champions announced plans to extend the game's ongoing Disco Fever season with a focus from the dev team on addressing issues «voiced by players» before the game launches its next season.
