A job listing on the Roblox website more or less confirms that the game is coming to consoles, or at least PlayStation.
Ever since Roblox came out on Xbox One, fans have been asking when it will be available on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch. For years, the answer has seemed to be ‘never’ but that looks set to change, at least for PlayStation.
On the official website’s career page, there is now a job listing for a senior software engineer to work on the PlayStation platform.
‘As a gaming console software engineer, you’ll help build and support our engine used by millions of users worldwide for the Sony PlayStation platform, and other leading gaming consoles on the market,’ it reads, which could imply that a Switch release will follow as well.
It even mentions developing and supporting the Roblox platform for consoles ‘like Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4.’ Although there’s no reference to it, a PlayStation 5 release seems like a fair assumption too.
When it will release for PlayStation is anybody’s guess, although it can’t be any time soon if the Roblox Corporation is still in the process of hiring people to work on it.
More console releases do seem like the next logical step and the company acknowledged the possibility in an earnings call last year. When asked if there were any plans to bring Roblox to other platforms beyond PC, mobile, and Xbox, company CEO Dave Baszucki said it did make sense.
‘So absolutely long term, Switch, PlayStation, [Oculus] Quest, all of these platforms make perfect sense for Roblox,’ he said. ‘What you’ve seen right now is an incredible focus on the phone by us, which we believe is an incredibly difficult form factor and the most difficult form factor for that immersion.
