A rumored four-hour cut of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith would supposedly include numerous additional scenes, subplots, and alternate concepts that would improve the already excellent film. George Lucas concluded the Star Wars prequel trilogy with the heartbreaking, tragic, and epic Revenge of the Sith, which fulfilled the grim promises made in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, showing the transformation of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader, the destruction of the Jedi Order, and Palpatine’s successful authoritarian coup which converted the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire. Revenge of the Sith was released at a time when the Star Wars saga was only meant to be comprised of six films, and the dramatic conclusion of the prequel trilogy would bring the franchise full circle, the Sith exacting their revenge yet the surviving Jedi initiating their own plan to return via Anakin Skywalker’s children. Like all Star Wars films, Revenge of the Sith was also promoted with a massive marketing campaign with numerous ancillary materials, many becoming beloved Star Wars properties in their own rights.
