The final two categories for the 2022 BAFTA Games Awards have been announced, and because of them, Returnal now takes the crown for most nominations at this year’s event.
Earlier this week, The British Academy revealed the nominees for “Performer in a Leading Role” and “Performer in a Supporting Role”. This is after the British Academy announced most of the nominations for this year’s event back in March.

These categories included “Best Game”, “Audio Achievement”, “Evolving Game”, and more. With these categories, Returnal was tied with Hazelight Studio’s It Takes Two for most nominations with eight apiece. These were closely followed by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart with seven and Forza Horizon 5 and Psychonauts 2 with six each.
However, the reveal of these final two categories has pushed Housemarque’s first-person shooter to the top with nine nominations. It takes Two is now tied with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart with eight nominations each.
It is not clear why The British Academy delayed the release of the performance nominations. Perhaps BAFTA’s global membership, the group responsible for voting for the nominations, had a difficult time settling on which performances deserved the nod. After all, this year saw some great performances in games.
For “Performer in a Leading Role” both Jason E. Kelley and Ozioma Akagha received nominations for their portrayals in Deathloop. Jennifer Hale nabbed one for her portrayal as Rivet in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s Jon Mclaren and Life is Strange: True Color’s Erika Mori also received recognition. Jane Perry’s performance as Selene in Returnal rounds out the category.
