Respawn’s upcoming single-player game is reportedly a first-person shooter.
According to GamesBeat’s sources, the title is being built around the guiding principles of “mobility” and “style” – but it isn’t a Titanfall sequel.
The site claims the studio will spend another year or so prototyping concepts for the game, with the plan being to release it in 2024 or 2025.
Respawn confirmed last July that it was developing a new single-player adventure game. Job ads billed it as “a designer’s dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe”.
Earlier this week it was revealed that the game’s former creative director, Mohammad Alavi, had left Respawn. He was previously a senior designer for the Titanfall series and narrative design director for Apex Legends, and also designed iconic Call of Duty missions including ‘All Ghillied Up’ while at Infinity Ward.
A PS5 version of Apex Legends was spotted on PSN this week, suggesting the game’s new-gen upgrade may be released soon, and Respawn is also believed to be working on an unannounced sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
According to GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, Respawn owner EA is likely to reveal the Fallen Order sequel in May ahead of plans to release it in late 2022 or early 2023.
It has been claimed that EA warmed to the idea of publishing more single-player games following the success of Fallen Order. In June 2021, the publisher said the game had been “played” by over 20 million people across all platforms and subscription services since its November 2019 release.
