One of the challenges in Resident Evil Village is “Bookworm,” which asks the player to read all files found in the story. Spread across the campaign are a total of 47 files, documents, and notes. While all of them are optional to read, completing the “Bookworm” challenge will reward the player with Completion Points, used to purchase models, weapons, and infinite ammo cheats.
While it is not necessary to read the files to understand Resident Evil Village’s story, the files flesh out details about the characters and events. For example, the player can find notes written by Heisenberg talking about his different biomechanical experiments.

Near the end of the game, the player can find a letter addressed to Mother Miranda from Ozwell E. Spencer, the founder of the Umbrella Corporation, implying that the megamycete of Village was the inspiration for Spender’s actions.
Unlike items, unread files are not indicated on the map, making them easy to miss. A few files will be hidden in sneaky locations, and a number cannot be accessed again once an area is clear (i.e. Castle Dimitrescu, House Beneviento, etc.).
