Remember when someone lost a prototype iPhone 4 in a bar in 2010? Well, now it seems Google is getting a similar treatment, with someone reportedly leaving what appears to be a prototype of the rumored Pixel Watch behind at a restaurant somewhere in the US.
Android Central has published images of the device, which it received from an anonymous source, along with some information about the hardware. The report says a box claiming the device is for "internal testing and development only" was also left behind at the restaurant.
The device itself seems to align with renders shared by leaker Jon Prosser in April 2021:
The images arrived just a day after 9to5Google reported that Google tried to trademark the Pixel Watch brand "to cover the categories of smartwatches; cases adapted for holding smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smartwatch straps; smartwatch bands."
That application only covers the Pixel Watch trademark, however, and 9to5Google points out that Google would still need the FCC's approval to release an actual product. The prototype leaked to Android Central hasn't been approved by US, Canadian, or European regulators.
Google didn't immediately respond to request for comment. More information could be revealed at the Google I/O 2022 developer conference, which is scheduled for May 11-12, depending on how far along in the development process the so-called Pixel Watch happens to be.
