The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is still fresh out of the oven but it already has some serious competition in the form of the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, the top model in Xiaomi's Redmi Note 11 series. Xiaomi and Samsung are major rivals in the smartphone industry, particularly in Asian markets. According to recent data, the affordable Galaxy A12 was the best-selling Android smartphone of 2021.
The mid-range smartphone category is a highly competitive one, and unlike flagships which get an annual release cycle, manufacturers often announce successors to their mid-range phones in six months or less. The result is a market that is filled with phones that offer small upgrades over their predecessors. This also makes it difficult for buyers to pick a phone as they could be held back by the belief that a better one is set to hit the market in just a few months.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (different from the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G sold in India), has a 120Hz AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 5, just like the Galaxy A53 5G. Both displays feature centered punch-hole cutouts for the front camera, but while the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G has a 6.67-inch panel, the Galaxy A53 5G gets a smaller 6.5-inch screen. The Galaxy A53 5G settles for plastic on the rear with a curved metal frame, while the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ opts for a more premium glass back with an aluminum frame. While the Redmi phone gets IP53 certification, the Galaxy A53 has a better IP67 dust and water-resistance rating.
