Rockstar Games today announced that a port of the original Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS4 and Switch.
Those who missed out on Red Dead Redemption in 2010 and don’t own an Xbox One or Series X|S console can finally experience the classic. The epic western and its single player expansion, Undead Nightmare, are set to arrive on PS4 and Nintendo Switch later this month in the form of a port of the original game. Despite rumors of a Red Dead Redemption Remaster, this edition is a direct port of the original game by Double Eleven Studios. The game will receive no other enhancements outside of some newly supported languages. This port is not coming to Xbox One as Red Dead Redemption is currently playable on all current Xbox consoles via backwards compatibility.
Red Dead Redemption takes place before the events of Red Dead Redemption 2 and follows former outlaw John Marston in his pursuit of the Van der Linde Gang. The adventure takes him across the American West and Mexico in a bid to save his family in exchange for capturing Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and Dutch van der Linde. Meanwhile, Undead Nightmare takes place in an alternate reality where the undead have risen.
As a direct port of the 2010 PS3 and Xbox 360 game, don’t expect any graphical or performance changes. The PS4 Pro version, like the playable version on Xbox One X, should deliver a 4K resolution at a steady frame rate. Just don’t expect anything beyond that. As for the Switch version, we’ll need to wait for launch to see how well that version performs. Unfortunately, probably the worst news of all is that there are still no plans for a PC release.
