Stray, the game about helping a cat lost in a futuristic, cyberpunk city occupied by robots get home has been on the wishlists of many gamers. The prospect of playing as a cat has peaked the interest of many potential players, though as Stray just released, it remains to be seen if it meets the expectations of those who have been waiting for it.
While fans wait for the player review scores to start rolling in, it seems that at least one additional demographic is intrigued by the game: players' cats. Social media accounts have lit up with the release of Stray as players' own cats have become bewitched by the game.
Stray Is Raising Money for Homeless Cats with Game Giveaway
Multiple players of Stray have taken to the internet to show images and videos of their cats watching the screen as they play. Cats and dogs often pay attention to what's shown on television screens, analyzing whether or not there's anything that could qualify as a predator or prey. Some videos are even being made to intentionally cater to a cat's interests. However, they're not being drawn to Stray due to birds; it seems the cat itself is drawing the other felines' attention.
It stands to reason that cats would be interested and perhaps even wary of the game. Stray's developers reportedly put painstaking effort into recreating the realistic gait and movement of an actual cat in Stray's playable character. The results are impressive to look at, but it may be so good that it's even fooling real cats into thinking another kitty is in the monitor. Add to that the ability for Stray's cat to knock things down, scratch furniture, and meow, and it's not surprising that cats can't seem to look away.
