Marvel has officially changed the iconic skull logo of The Punisher, enraging fans of the character — but their anger is woefully misplaced. Frank Castle is known for his incredibly uncompromising views regarding criminals, and believes killing them is the only way to rid the world of crime. He's responsible for a terrifyingly high body count, and while his murderous ways haven't changed in Punisher #1, his costume (and loyalties) certainly have — and fans have nothing to worry about.
Nearly every single superhero in the Marvel Universe (and the DC Universe) is known for their aversion to killing criminals and supervillains. The rise of the Comics Code Authority combined with the more conservative views of the 1950s and 60s in America led to multiple superheroes adopting a strict no-killing policy (and some, like Batman and Superman, believe they should cease their vigilante activities should they ever resort to killing). The Punisher is one of the very few exceptions to the rule; deeply affected by the death of his wife and children, he does not believe in mercy nor rehabilitation.

As such, the Punisher has found a rather vocal fanbase in the form of multiple right-wing groups who believe in the same uncompromising views regarding criminals as the character. In particular, some police officers wear the Punisher's skull logo with pride (to Frank Castle's disgust; he believes police should emulate Captain America rather than himself). But Punisher #1 reveals Castle has exchanged his skull logo for a horned variation, symbolic of his new association with the Hand.
