The PlayStation 5 gets a new firmware update on October 12, and beyond the usual, «this system software update improves system performance» message that users see upon installing a new update, this one seems to be addressing a long-time concern of PS5 users. Even more surprising, this update comes just a week after another update was put out for the console, which also, unsurprisingly, just listed «improved system performance» as the changes made to the console. This new one, though, is quite a bit more substantial.
PS5 update version 22.02-06.02.00 is available to download and install around the globe now. The PS5 has seen several firmware updates in an effort to improve functionality and user experience. While few of them have been substantial and the PS5 still remains relatively similar to its launch back in November 2020, this new update does bring some nice quality of life changes to the user interface and a significant change to the way trophies are viewable.

There are two significant improvements in this new update. The first is a change to the Activity Cards that have been a part of the user experience since launch. Before the newest update, a large horizontal list would appear when the activity cards were accessed, which was slightly clunky and took longer than necessary for users to access what they needed. The Activity Card feature was designed to allow players quick access to specific features or locations within games themselves, therefore saving time and avoiding loading screens.
