When Sony launched the PlayStation 5, it did so with some changes to its PlayStation Plus free games program. Prior to the PS5, PlayStation Plus subscribers were treated to two free PS4 games every month, with users having to claim those games before they were replaced by the following month's offerings. The introduction of the PS5 saw the free PS Plus games expand to include a free PS5 game on top of the two PS4 games, and beyond that, some games have been available for two- or three-month intervals instead of just one.
Another big changes to PlayStation Plus with the PS5 was the debut of the PS Plus Collection. With the PS Plus Collection, PlayStation Plus subscribers not only get access to the monthly free games, but they can also snag 20 of some of the most popular PS4 games that were ever released. While there are workarounds, in theory, the PS Plus Collection is supposed to be exclusive to those with a PlayStation 5 console. This is why there has been some overlap with some of the PS Plus Collection games pulling double duty as free PS4 PS Plus games for some months.
PS5 PS Plus Subscribers Will Have Three Months to Claim GTA Online
It was recently pointed out by Reddit user kabirsingh84 that 12 of the 20 PS Plus Collection games have been available as monthly free games as well. Admittedly, most of these came before the PS Plus Collection was introduced, but there are a couple that were added later. For example, Days Gone and Mortal Kombat X were free PS Plus games in 2021, even though both were already available to claim through the PS Plus Collection.
