Ubisoft's upcoming remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been delayed indefinitely. The beloved action game, originally released in 2003, famously lets players rewind time in order to complete platforming puzzles and gain an edge in combat. The first Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake delay was announced in December 2020, with at least two more official delays following in the past two years.
Since release, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has come to be regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. This immense praise is typically attributed to the game's straightforward story, excellent pacing and innovative Dagger of Time mechanic. The mystical item lets players rewind time to replay recent events, which can be an excellent tool for both platforming and combat. A Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was revealed by Ubisoft at E3 2020, but the showcase was criticized for its dated graphics and visual design. Following a delay the publisher set an April 2022 release date for the remake, but that time frame came and went without any Prince of Persia: Sands of Time news.

A new report from IGN reveals that Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will release in 2023 or beyond following yet another delay. When retailers began delisting fans' pre-orders for the upcoming remake, IGN reached out to Ubisoft for an explanation. The publisher revealed that development of the reimagined version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been moved to Ubisoft Montreal, with the new team continuing work on the project.
