In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Yanma is one of the few Pokémon that requires a specific condition to be met before it can begin its evolution into Yanmega. Yanma was originally introduced into the series alongside Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Gold as one of several Pokémon that felt lackluster due to not having an evolution. That changed, however, when Yanma received the ability to evolve into Yanmega in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, and it's one of the better Bug-type Pokémon around.
Bug-type Pokémon often have a bad reputation for being underpowered with a multitude of weaknesses, and Yanma fell prey to the typecast with its subpar stats and move pool. Even after Yanma evolves into Yanmega, and its Effort Levels are raised in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it can still fall quickly to heavily offensive species of Pokémon such as Fire-, Ice-, Electric-, Flying-, and Rock-types. Nonetheless, Yanmega's great Special Attack and Speed stats make it an exceptional Pokémon to use, thanks to the new Agile and Strong style attacks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Players actually have the opportunity to catch Yanmega if they choose to do so in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, though evolving Yanma into Yanmega will likely be a faster way to obtain the large dragonfly Pokémon. Yanmega is a common Pokémon that can be found in the wild by traveling to Heavenward Lookout in the Coronet Highlands, but this location isn't available for quite some time. Alternatively, Alpha Yanmega in Pokémon Legends: Arceus can be captured in the Crimson Mirelands by traveling to the Droning Meadow around Lake Valor.
