Niantic has announced that Pokémon GO players will have to attend in-person events in order to encounter the debut of several new Ultra Beasts. Although Pokémon GO Fest 2022 ended in early June, Niantic has continued to host in-person events of the annual festival in various cities around the world. On June 22, the mobile developer revealed that Sun and Moon Ultra Beasts Pheromosa, Buzzwole, and Xurkitree would finally make their much-anticipated debut during the Berlin, Seattle, and Sapporo Pokémon GO Fest celebrations in July. However, players wanting to catch the Gen 7 Pokémon will not only have to travel to the events in person, but they will also need to pay for Special Research in order to encounter the newly debuted Ultra Beasts.
In March, the Niantic mobile game was taken over by Pokémon GO's «Season of Alola» celebration. The three-month-long event added many Gen 7 Pokémonto Pokémon GO such as Greninja, Litten and Lycanroc. The most anticipated Alolan Pokémon for many fans, though, were Sun and Moon's infamous Ultra Beasts. After months of anticipation, the deep-space Pokémon were finally announced to be making their debut. Some players were surprised, however, when Niantic revealed that popular Ultra Beast Pokémon Pheromosa, Buzzwole, and Xurkitree would only be catchable in a series of in-person Pokémon GO events set for July.

Niantic made the announcement on the Pokémon GO Twitter account on June 22, explaining that Pheromosa would be locked behind Berlin's Pokémon GO Fest, Buzzwole would be tied to Seattle, and Xurkitree would be available at the Sapporo celebration.
