Trading has been disabled in Pokemon Go after a bug was brought to light by two players last night. The bug in question is an accidental exploit where the Lucky status doesn't stop after one trade as it's supposed to.
Lucky Pokemon have higher stats and are easier to level up, and you can get them by trading with a Lucky Friend. They're highly sought after among the more competitive Pokemon Go players, but two managed to trade 100 times in a row without the status stopping (thanks, Eurogamer). This gave them a bunch of improved 'mons which obviously throws the games' balance off skew. So while developer Niantic investigates the issue, it has disabled trading to avoid anyone else diluting the pool of Lucky 'mons.

"Today I traded 100 Pokemon with a friend, and they all turned Lucky," the Reddit post stated. It was shared to TheSilphRoad, Pokemon Go's "largest grassroots network," a place for trading 'mons. The poster continued, "Further explanation: we were both Lucky Friends when we started and still are. The status as Lucky Friends didn't disappear, and every trade turned out to be a Lucky trade."
"Trainers, trading is currently unavailable as we investigate an issue," Niantic Support said on Twitter. "We apologise for the inconvenience and will continue to update here. Thank you for your patience."
Trading was disabled yesterday around midnight GMT and has not yet been turned back on. There's no word on when we can expect trading to be available again which has gotten the original poster some backlash to which they replied: "I posted it because I thought it's interesting and that others could try if it also works for them," AndKrem said on Reddit.
