Shiny Pokemon are rare, although catch rates vary depending on the game being played. This rarity gave rise to the hobby of shiny hunting, where gamers play Pokemon games for the specific purpose of tracking down shiny Pokemon. Generally speaking, they do this to catch the shinies and gather a collection for clout or bragging rights, but not all shinies can be captured.

Twitch streamer Oliver_MKP is an avid shiny hunter who seems to have been having a streak of bad luck recently. He repeatedly ran into uncatchable shinies while trying to gather shiny starter Pokemon in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. After finding a shiny Starly as his first uncatchable shiny in about 15 years of shiny hunting, the streamer appears to have become interested in hunting uncatchable shinies.
