Pokémon Company investigating Palworld similarities
pcgamesinsider.bizThe Pokémon Company has confirmed that it is looking into the recently-launched Palworld.
In a statement, the Japanese firm said that it was 'investigating' apparent similarities between its smash hit and another title launched in 2024. While Palworld isn't named, it is definitely Palworld that is being referenced.
“We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024,” the company wrote.
“We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon.
“We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.”
Palworld launched on January 19th and shifted over eight million copies in its first six days on sale. The title has drawn comparisons with Pokémon, largely due to some of its monster designs.
The game's director – and CEO of developer Pocket Pair - Takuro Mizobe has responded to allegations of plagiarism, saying that he'd "appreciate it" if people would stop saying that the studio has copied work.
“While we have received various opinions about Palworld, it is important to note that the supervision of all materials related to Palworld is conducted by a team, including myself," they wrote.
"I bear the responsibility for the produced materials. I would appreciate it if these comments towards artists involved in Palworld would cease.”
