is no stranger to making original films, and in a recent interview with CCO Pete Docter, he revealed what the upcoming slate for Pixar’s films look like, and how many projects will be original to the company.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Docter was asked about the production status of films like Elio and Toy Story 5, to which he confirmed they are still being made. He then spoke a bit about the upcoming slate for Pixar, revealing that two original films (including Elio) will release before Toy Story.
“Yeah. We have two originals coming out next,” said Docter. “We have two original films coming out, and then Toy Story, and then some more original. We still have a little bit of work to do to get to the balance…which is exciting. We can talk again in a couple of years. We have a lot of stuff that is in the works now that I’m pretty excited about.”

Currently, Pixar’s slate has Elio set for release on June 13, 2025, and then another original, untitled film set for March 6, 2026, before Toy Story 5’s release date of June 19, 2026.
Elsewhere in the interview, Docter also revealed that Enrico Casarosa, the director of 2021’s Luca, is also working on an original project, which he calls “night and day” from Luca. “Domee Shi, who’s already done Turning Red, is working on Elio, and you can see the experience level. Enrico Casarosa, who did Luca, is doing another one that’s just night and day,” Docter said.
It’s unclear whether the project Casarosa is working on is the same project slated for a March 2026 release, however.
