After years of emotional turmoil, Paris Hilton and her mother and star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kathy Hilton, are finally making amends. The pair’s relationship was strained for many years due to Kathy sending her daughter to a hyper-vigilant boarding school that implemented numerous allegedly abusive tactics for emotional reform. The former Simple Life star details her horrific experience at the institution in the YouTube documentary, This is Paris, which premiered in 2020. The release of the documentary was the first time her parents learned and understood the depth of her abuse at school.
Toward the beginning of Paris’ long career, she garnered substantial media attention due to her party lifestyle, holding a consistent slot within the tabloids. Paris was “addicted to the nightlife” in her youth, sparking her parents to distance their daughter from that way of life by sending her to Utah's Provo Canyon School. Provo Canyon School was a boarding school that boasted being an “intensive, psychiatric youth residential treatment center.” Paris attended the institution from 1997 to 1998, keeping the details of her experience hidden for many years until the release of her documentary. The Utah boarding school changed ownership shortly after Paris attended the institution and claims that they can’t comment on the school’s operations during that time.
