Overwatch 2 players are scrutinizing the new competitive rank icons on Reddit. The design changes for the game's higher ranks have lost their radiance effect and have slightly changed some coloration to the dismay of its players.
Achieving the highest ranks in Overwatch's competitive ranks gave players not only bragging rights but a shiny, lustrous emblem that almost seemed to sing when it came up on screen after matches and on the player stat screen. As with much of the Overwatch 2 experience, the competitive rank icons have seen a redesign and the new icons have lost their shine and charm. Overwatch fans have gathered on Reddit to shun the new designs.
Overwatch 2 Fans Are Not Happy With The Updated Character Bios
Posted on r/Overwatch, fans are not thrilled with the redesigned Overwatch competitive icons for the Top 500, Masters, and Platinum ranks. The illustrious sheen has been taken away and has a muted color. The colors have also been changed, more dramatically so for the Top 500 icon. It seems like the design was meant to be a sort of emerald color, but it gives more of a dingy green.
With the competitive Skill Rank (SR) numbers next to these icons, it could be that these icons represent the players' Overwatch 1 ranks and the loss of the glimmer and icon changes are meant to signify that these are from the past. With the changes to Overwatch 2's Competitive Ranked system doing away with SR numbers and going with an inter-rank tier system, future icons will return the shine. It seems like fans under this post may be a little too narrow-sighted.
