Caution: Potential spoilers for Outlander ahead!
In the Outlander season 6 finale, Brianna and Roger’s discussion about time travel may have teased the duo’s biggest story change since season 4. Throughout the finale, the pair discussed when they might tell their son Jemmy that they’re from the future. Additionally, they discussed the possibility that Jemmy might choose to leave the past and return to life in the 1970s and beyond.
Brianna and Roger conceded their fears are likely unfounded. However, this subplot seems to be teasing a huge change in Brianna and Roger’s storyline, which begins for the pair at the end of the sixth book of the Outlander series: A Breath of Snow & Ashes. While Outlander has diverted from the books several times before, Brianna and Roger’s conversation about time travel seems to be suggesting that the series will remain true to the books when it comes to Brianna and Roger’s storyline in Outlander season 7 and book 7: An Echo in Bone.

By the end of book 6, Brianna and Roger, after the birth of their second child, decide to return to the future, taking Jemmy with them in order to escape the hardships of the 1770s; a storyline that would shake up Brianna and Roger’s arc in the Outlander series for the first time since they came to the past in season 4. For a few seasons now, Brianna and Roger’s storyline has felt somewhat stagnant. However, beginning in An Echo in Bone, Roger and Brianna’s storyline and time spent back in the future becomes immensely important to the ongoing plot of Outlander, and it seems as though the TV adaptation is hinting that they intend to utilize that storyline to its fullest extent.
