Outlander season 7 has officially cast its Rachel and Dr. Denzell «Denny» Hunter. The genre-bending historical fiction series based on the books by Diana Gabaldon faced a truncated season 6 due to COVID-related complications, as well as and the pregnancy of star Caitriona Balfe. Outlander season 7 will finish adaptingGabaldon's A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and will have an extra-large season order that is possibly up to 18 episodes long, according to Jamie actor Sam Heughan.
Now, Deadline has confirmed the casting of Denny and Rachel, who are well-known to readers of Gabaldon's series. Izzy Meikle-Small and Joey Phillips have joined Outlander season 7 as the Hunter siblings. The brother and sister are Quakers living a modest and simple life until the arrival of Young Ian (John Bell), who brings with him the ailing William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart). According to the report, Denny has been studying medicine in London and Boston, and is looking to join the Revolutionary army as a surgeon. Unlike the other Quakers in his community, he believes that liberty is a God-granted gift that should be fought for and doesn't seek reconciliation with the British Empire. Rachel is a follower of the Revolutionaries, and her modest exterior belies a «fiery» streak that piques romantic interest from both Young Ian and William.

Interestingly, before her Outlander casting, Meikle-Small was almost cast as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones before Sophie Turner. However, she is now best known for roles in films Never Let Me Go, Snow White and the Huntsman, and the BBC miniseries Great Expectations.
