A sequel series is in development at Netflix according to a recent report from Variety.
It’s unclear exactly what the series will center around as of now, but the report notes original stars Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles are all attached to executive produce the show. All three are also in talks to reprise their roles in some form, though it’s not known if any other stars from the original hit series will return in any capacity.
Originally released in 2003, One Tree Hill was a massive hit for The CW (although it originally launched under The WB, which became The CW after a merger with UPN). The show ran for nine seasons and focused on the life and relationships of a group of characters in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina.
The series originally followed their lives in high school but soon saw them grow up and deal with lives after college. The show also featured multiple time jumps forward, with the final few seasons dealing with the lives of the characters after having fully graduated from college.
Alongside Bush, Burton, and Ackles, One Tree Hill also starred Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Galeotti, Paul Johansson, Barry Corbin, Craig Sheffer, and Moira Kelly. The series is often cited as one of the greatest teen dramas of all time and became one of The CW’s biggest hits ever.
