Warning! Spoilers for Star Wars: Rebels and Obi-Wan Kenobi from Marvel Comics
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul's epic final battle from Star Wars: Rebels is getting retold in an all-new way, as the upcoming Star Wars: Obi-Wan #2 will feature the battle between the Jedi and the villain who killed his master. In a newly teased image at this weekend's Star Wars Celebrations, Marvel Comics shared new art for the upcoming series, showcasing the iconic Maul and Kenobi fight, getting the comic book treatment for the first time.
One of the greatest Star Wars fights in the entire franchise is the final battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul in the Star Wars: Rebels animated series. In the episode «Twin Suns,» written by Dave Filoni and Henry Gilroy, the pair's tense meeting on Tatooine was years in the making after Maul infamously killed Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace. The fight with Kenobi ends with him killing Maul after he attacks, as the Jedi Master beats him in the lightsaber battle. The defeat is a full-circle moment for Kenobi, as after watching his Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn die at the hands of Darth Maul, years later, he finally took him out. Kenobi found peace at the moment, taking Maul down with speed rather than drawing it out and then compassionately reassuring him he would protect the Chosen One as he died. Despite the «revenge,» Kenobi is not bitter in victory. Now, the fight is finally coming to the comics.
