A new Obi-Wan Kenobi fan-edited image imagines what Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen would look like back in their Jedi robes 17 years after Revenge of the Sith. Heralded as one of the strongest performances in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi evolved from a Jedi Padawan learner to a respected Jedi Master throughout the three films released between 1999 and 2005. The actor was widely praised for playing the younger version of the character originally made famous by Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy. Meanwhile, Christensen played a young Anakin Skywalker, before his transformation into the villainous Darth Vader, in the final two films of the prequels, taking over from Jake Lloyd who played a younger version of the character in The Phantom Menace.
Now audiences are just weeks away from seeing both McGregor and Christensen return to their screens courtesy of Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Originally conceived as a stand-alone film, plans for the series were reworked following the disappointing box office performance of the Solo: A Star Wars Story spinoff film. In 2019 McGregor’s return to the role was announced with much fanfare at the D23 Expo, and, one year later, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy also announced Christensen's return. McGregor himself said that having the opportunity to reunite with Christensen was “the most beautiful thing of all.”
