Prime Video’s upcoming Mr & Mrs. Smith series lost Phoebe Waller-Bridge, but the star’s work on No Time to Dieproves she was a perfect fit for the show. Prime Video’s Mr & Mrs. Smith TV series is set to reboot the 2005 action-comedy of the same name. The movie follows a pair of unhappily married assassins who are both hiding their professions from their partner — a secret that becomes a much bigger problem when the husband and wife are assigned to kill each other.
The Mr & Mrs. Smith series was originally set to star Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover, both critical darlings thanks to their respective comedy-drama projects, Fleabag and Atlanta. However, Waller-Bridge has since dropped out of the project due to creative differences, meaning this small-screen reboot of the 2005 action-comedy will instead star Maya Erskine alongside Glover. This is an unfortunate loss for the show, as Waller-Bridge’s work on director Cary Fukunaga’s No Time to Die proves she was perfect for the project.

Despite how lofty an aim reinventing 007 for 2020 was, No Time To Die effectively pulled this feat off with a James Bond adventure that was both a classic entry into the franchise and subtle subversion of many outdated elements of the series. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was only one of four screenwriters to work on the movie, making her exit from Amazon’s Mr & Mrs. Smith series dismaying. The writer/actor left the show due to creative differences, and No Time To Die proves that she could have helped update another spy movie with a potentially cliched premise.
