It feels like there is something of a competition gearing up between Xbox and PlayStation to have the best subscription service on the video game market. It could be argued that the crown once belonged to the latter thanks to PS Plus. However, the arrival and rapid growth of Game Pass has firmly solidified Xbox as having the best offering out there when it comes to video game subscription services by quite some way.
Suffice to say, Nintendo is lagging behind in that regard in a lot of ways, even with the introduction of its Expansion Pack last year. In fact, despite adding to NSO, it made a lot of Switch owners like the service a lot less. There was a fair bit of discourse surrounding its price, and even more when it launched and there were issues with some of the Nintendo 64 titles.

Today Nintendo has launched something that might warm a few of you up to NSO. At the very least it will have people logging on a little more regularly. The initiative has been dubbed Missions And Rewards, and it gives NSO subscribers tasks to achieve with incentives for doing so. Nothing too strenuous, though. To paraphrase Nintendo, the missions are things you likely have been doing already anyway.
For example, playing something that supports online play, and playing a title from NSO's NES library. Completing these simple missions will earn you platinum points that can subsequently be spent on stuff in the My Nintendo Store. Nintendo will be hoping you spend those points on member-exclusive icon elements, the other big introduction to NSO via this Missions And Rewards update.
