Nintendo has been at the forefront of console creation for almost 40 years. For a lot of that time it has had to think outside of the box in order to keep up and stay ahead of its competitors. The Wii was entirely different from anything else on the market at the time and nothing like anything anyone had ever seen before. That risk and innovation paid off as the Wii went on to sell more than 100 million units.
Nintendo needed a win via the Wii following a lackluster showing from its GameCube.
