Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman says that she thinks filmmaker Robert Eggers’ The Northman is his most epic film yet. In a career that has spanned nearly thirty years, Kidman has made a name for herself as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. The fifty-four-year-old has worked with some of cinema’s greatest filmmakers, and for years, her and now ex-husband Tom Cruise were seen as the ultimate high profile couple. Aurvandill’s kingdom is subsequently taken by Fjolnir, resulting in the disappearance of Amleth’s mother, Queen Gudrun (Kidman), and forcing the escaped Amleth to live in exile. Vowing revenge for his father’s death, Amleth’s quest is a harrowing one, filled with the sort of apocalyptic brooding that has colored Eggers’ filmography to date. At present, the film has received plenty of critical praise, leading some to already wonder if this could be 2022’s earliest Oscar contender.
