New PlayStation Plus Tiers Get Phased Release Dates
PlayStation Plus’ new tiered form was set to release sometime in June in some markets and before that in others. Sony wasn’t specific, but the company has now cleared up when the new PlayStation Plus will roll out with its batch of new release dates. And it appears as though no one territory will get it the same week.
Non-Japanese Asian markets are supposed to get the service on May 23. Japan is slated for June 1. Sony is targeting June 13 for the Americas. And, lastly, European members will be able to get the new PlayStation Plus on June 22. Sony noted that these are all targeted dates, meaning something could slip. However, if that did happen, given the sequential nature of it, it wouldn’t be surprising if a delay in one territory impacted the others.
Sony also noted in its updated blog post that it is expanding cloud streaming to a total of 30 markets, meaning that more will be able to experience all of the Premium tier. These countries include Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. There will still be markets without streaming (the markets currently without PlayStation Now) and people in those places will be able to get the special Deluxe tier that is slightly cheaper than Premium and has all the other benefits of Premium except streaming.
The company also noted that it has been working on this “massive global effort” to add quality games to the service. However, outside of the small handful of acclaimed games it listed last time (, , , , , and ), it still hasn’t provided a more substantial list of what players can expect in the next two months.
