Fans of the Mortal Kombat creators NetherRealm Studios have been anxiously awaiting to see what CCO Ed Boon and company are up to next. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know and won’t find out at least until celebrations are over. Yes, NetherRealm is preparing to party. Mortal Kombat‘s 30th anniversary is coming up on October 8, and NetherRealm is holding off on announcing it’s next game until it’s all over.
The news was confirmed this week by Boon, who took to Twitter to assuage any fan concerns. He writes that he and the team know fans are “excited about the next NRS game announcement,” and notes that it’ll arrive “in due time.” However, celebrations of the studio’s first fighter come first — what’s next for NetherRealm will be later.
“We know a lot of you are excited about the next NRS game announcement & it will happen in due time,” Boon writes in his message. “But first it all about 30 years of Mortal Kombat. That’s what we’re going to celebrate and focus on. Our next game announcement will be separate from MK30″

While we don’t know for sure what’s next for NetherRealm Studios, there’s a good chance it’s betting on a new Mortal Kombat. In January, the studio shared an image that seemed to tease the development of Mortal Kombat 12. Of course, NetherRealm is helmed by Boon, who is known for gleefully trolling fans. However, Andrew Bowen, the voice of Johnny Cage, did share an image of himself at the Warner Bros. Studio lot
