MultiVersus is easily Warner Bros Games’ biggest Steam release to date, based on active players.
The free-to-play fighter entered open beta on Tuesday and its number of active users quickly started to build.
By the end of its first night, the game had reached a peak concurrent player count of 144,456 – at the time this put it ahead of Apex Legends (118,887) and behind only Lost Ark (268,988), Dota 2 (454,554) and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (587,002).
In all, the peak was the seventh-highest on Steam in the last 24 hours, ahead of such titles as Team Fortress 2, Monster Hunter Rise, Ark: Survival Evolved, Rust and Destiny 2.
It also marked the highest peak concurrent player count ever achieved by Warner Bros Games, by some distance.
The ten previous highest peaks recorded by Warner Bros Games / Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment are as follows:
MultiVersus’ day one peak is higher than the combined peaks of every Batman and Mortal Kombat game, two key pillars of Warner Bros’ game IP portfolio.
The game had already reached a higher all-time peak than any other fighting game on Steam while it was still in closed beta, so it was almost inevitable that the number would rise once it became available to all players.
Warner launched the MultiVersus open beta at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST on Tuesday in the Americas, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
It’s available for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One with full cross-play support, and includes 17 characters, nine maps and eight modes at launch.
