Before MultiVersus even launched, data miners found evidence of Gandalf and the Eye of Sauron, but with the first season rolling out, there's no Lord of the Rings to be found. And it looks like all references have been cut from the backend.
"This is quite the bad news, but LOTR stuff for MultiVersus MIGHT have been cut," leaker Susie tweeted. "I haven't found the Eye of Sauron trophy, it seems like they replaced Barra-dur from the background of Trophy's Edge and completely removed the Mordor and Hobbiton tracks from the files."

Data miners previously found leaks for Gandalf and Legolas, with many believing the, "Who likes bows and arrows?" tweet from director Tony Huynh to be a tease for the latter. MultiVersus even tweeted out what many believed to be an Eye of Sauron teaser, but now all LOTR content looks to have been removed from the game's files.
Susie followed up, "Of course, there are still mentions in the locres but it still is odd considering most things LOTR related have been removed."
It's unclear what this means for LOTR's future in MultiVersus, but so far, neither Huynh nor the official channels have commented on whether any LOTR characters will be coming to the game. However, a leaker did claim in July that the Tolkien Estate are preventing Gandalf and other LOTR characters from being added.
Only two days ago, Susie also data mined what looked to be a story mode in the credits. There's a section aptly titled 'Story' which lists writers and artists, possibly hinting at the inclusion of a campaign mode. However, this could also be in reference to the character bios on the game's website and not an actual scripted multiverse narrative.
