2022 still has plenty of major horror movies on the way, from Jordan Peele’s Nope to the long-awaited franchise revival Evil Dead Rise. 2022 has featured an impressive set of horror movies so far. The first month of the year saw the arrival of Scream 2022, a successful slasher that revived its franchise and proved January wasn’t always a dumping ground for movies with little audience appeal.
Since then, Ti West’s X proved a surprisingly big hit in theatres, the satirical horror-comedy Fresh excelled on VOD, and the likes of Studio 666 and Choose Or Die proved that there was still room for fun, silly horror in the era of streaming services. Admittedly, Morbius and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 proved that the year’s horror output wasn’t an unqualified success. However, with huge releases like Halloween Ends and Hellraiser on the way, the future looks bright for the dark side of 2022 cinema.

The arrival of Jordan Peele’s Nope, a Cowboys & Aliens-style sci-fi horror, will be one of the summer’s most exciting horror releases, but even before then, June still promises both David Cronenberg’s body horror comeback Crimes of the Future and the Joe Hill adaptation The Black Phone. Once summer comes to a close, September will see another Stephen King adaptation endeavor to make big-screen vampires scary again, while Michael Myers’ battle with Laurie Strode finally comes to a close with Halloween Ends in October. The same month will see Netflix’s animated horror-comedy adventure Wendell & Wild compete with the return of two genre titans, Hellraiser and the Evil Dead franchise.
