Every time we think the MMORPG genre is dying out, we receive stern reminders that it's very much not. First it was New World, then it was Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker, and now it's Mortal Online 2.
From Swedish developer Star Vault, Mortal Online 2 is a hardcore MMORPG that takes place in a single giant open-world. Everything is real-time with first-person combat reminiscent of Skyrim. If you die, your corpse can be looted by anyone who passes by, and with mandatory PvP on, you will almost certainly run into a player killer at some point.

Mortal Online 2 arrived on January 25 and Star Vault clearly wasn't expecting the game to be such a success. It sold over 100,000 copies in the two weeks since its release and peaked at over 9,600 players. That's not a huge number compared to games like New World, but it was apparently more than Star Vault was expecting because players are waiting 24 hours or longer just to log in.
PC Gamer even noted one player waited over 36 hours just to log into Mortal Online 2's server. There's no AFK timer, so players are camping out online just to keep their spot in-game.
This massive queue timer has resulted in the game getting review bombed by angry players. Mortal Online 2 now sits at just 40% positive on Steam with most players complaining that they can't even log in. Others note that because the game's only server is in the EU, ping times to North America are so massive that they can't fight against other players.
Star Vault CEO Henrik Nyström has already paused subscriptions on Mortal Online 2, and just yesterday stated that the game will receive additional servers.
