Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have announced Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a new mobile RPG coming next year, where you have to participate in "massive real-time group battles."
While we won't see Mortal Kombat 12 for a little longer, according to Ed Boon, fans of this universe already have another upcoming title just on the horizon. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a new role-playing spin-off featuring "the first mobile-exclusive story experience and console quality cinematics," is a follow-up to 2015's Mortal Kombat Mobile, and will launch globally on iOS and Android devices sometime in 2023.

The project is currently in development at NetherRealm, the team behind the latest series installments, as well as Injustice. In Onslaught, your goal will be to create a team of fighters from a vast roster of characters, and then unleash them in real-time group battles to stop a new dark and dangerous threat — pretty classy MK stuff.
The additional details are still under wraps, as all we ever got regarding the project is its first official artwork you can see above. It appears that Onslaught will bring back many of the fan favorites, such as Shao Kahn, Kitana, Quan Chi, Jade, Shinnok, and more. It is likely the title will be a classic free-to-play game with a lengthy list of playable characters you can unlock gradually while playing.
