Moonfall ending explained and sequel setup. Directed by Roland Emmerich, Moonfall is a disaster movie with a major sci-fi twist. As the title suggests, the moon falls to Earth, but the film holds a lot more secrets about the reasons for why that is.
Moonfall follows two astronauts, Jocinda Fowler (Halle Berry), Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson), and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) as they gear up for a space mission to save the Earth from the moon after it’s knocked out of its orbit. As the moon closes in on the planet, the destruction to cities and natural structures begins. Once the trio is on the moon, however, they discover the space swarm that began digging into the moon a decade before is there for a specific reason.

Moonfall’s ending was surprising in that it killed off one character, plenty of information about the moon was acquired, and an entire human civilization’s existence was discovered.
