Following the story missions will lead you to encounter each monster in its own good time, but you're welcome and encouraged to complete optional tasks and hunts as they appear on the job board. Keep in mind that the quests you'll be able to undertake are based on your Hunter Rank, including the challenging Sapphire Star's Guidance.
Even after completing the main story, you'll still be able to undertake a variety of optional quests that range from very easy to extremely difficult. One quest known as the Sapphire Star's Guidance is an endgame task that will only become available to you once you've reached a Hunter Rank of 100.
In order to increase your rank, you'll need to complete a specific number of story quests known as Assignments. Once you've done so, you'll be able to undertake the Sapphire Star's Guidance which is considered the final hunter's test.
What makes this quest particularly difficult is that it asks you to hunt down three Elder Dragons at once, specifically a Kushala Daora, a Teostra, and a Nergigante. To make matters worse, each of them will be Tempered which means that they'll have increased health and attack damage. The setting for this quest is the Elder's Recess, and you'll have the standard time limit of 50 minutes to complete it with only three Faints allowed.
This quest asks that you slay these monsters. Capturing them will not fulfill your objectives.
