In its Q1 2022 financial results, publisher Activion Blizzard Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will constitute the franchise's most advanced experience to date. Such news hardly comes as a surprise given the rumors that began circulating several months ago. The first Modern Warfare 2 leaks made the rounds late in summer 2021, with reputable leakers claiming developer Infinity Ward's progress was way ahead of schedule. Industry insider Tom Henderson chimed in not too long thereafter to corroborate the Modern Warfare sequel claim.
Several other rumors have hit the web in the months since then, many of them suggesting the follow-up to Call of Duty's 2019 hit would revolve around drug cartels. Activision and developer Infinity Ward confirmed some of the chatter in February and shut down reports that next year's Call of Duty adventure may not release on time. According to the publisher, free-to-play and premium CoD titles remain on the docket for 2022, 2023, and beyond.
