Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developers Infinity Ward have detailed the upgrades to the Gunsmith tool. The customization tool, now known as Gunsmith 2.0, allows users to design their guns in detail before heading off into one of the various multiplayer modes found within Modern Warfare 2.
Gunsmith has appeared in all games within the Call of Duty franchise since Black Ops III and is a feature where players add various attachments such as optics and ammo modifications to any weapon. With Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward has lifted the lid on what new features players can expect within the revamped mode ahead of the game’s release on October 28.

With the previous Call of Duty games, players are able to customize all weapons, changing the muzzle and stock of the gun or adding perks to suit loadouts to their play style. Gunsmith 2.0 improves on this somewhat by introducing a new Receiver Slot option within the menu. This allows modifications within the same «family» of weapons to be moved over to a new weapon once a player has unlocked the relevant upgrade. Unlike last year’s Call of Duty: Vanguard, which saw a lot of eye-watering weapon modifications compared to previous years, players won’t have to face a lengthy grind to unlock specific modifiers once a newer gun has been unlocked.
MW 2’s new streamlined process to Gunsmith 2.0 will undoubtedly be a welcome change for long-time COD fans as it means less time will be spent tinkering with the weapons, freeing up more time in the various multiplayer modes expected to appear in Modern Warfare 2. Along with the practical improvements, Infinity Ward also confirmed that all the modifications and attachments for each weapon family
