Tom Cruise reveals the official title for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 7 during CinemaCon, and it's quite a mouthful. With the first movie having been released back in 1996, the Mission: Impossible movie franchise has now been going strong for 25 years. Starring Cruise as superspy Ethan Hunt, the most recent film in the series, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, was released in 2018 to rave reviews from both critics and audiences.
It was announced shortly after the release of Mission: Impossible – Fallout that director Christopher McQuarrie would reteam with Cruise for two additional installments, which would be shot back-to-back. That filming strategy was eventually abandoned, and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic caused numerous delays to both films, with the next entry now scheduled to release in July of 2023. While plot details for the films remain under wraps, they are expected to act as a sendoff for Hunt, with Cruise teasing that his Mission: Impossible 7 stunts will be his most dangerous yet, including a sequence where he drives a motorcycle off a cliff.
