Chipmaker MediaTek, best known for its mid-range silicon in smartphones, reportedly plans to challenge Qualcomm’s Snapdragon line with its own high-end system-on-a-chip (SoC). The Taiwanese company has historically produced processors for lower-end devices such as ARM-based Chromebooks and relatively cheap smartphones like the newest Moto G Power.
