Microsoft quietly halted production of Xbox One consoles in 2020 to focus on manufacturing current-generation hardware.
The company confirmed the move in a statement to The Verge, explaining it has made producing Xbox Series X | S hardware its top priority.
"To focus on production of Xbox Series X | S, we stopped production for all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020," commented senior director of Xbox console product marketing, Cindy Walker.
The Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Xbox One are still able to play newer titles due to Microsoft's focus on cross-platform play, but we now know it has been over a year since new units rolled off the production line.
The news comes shortly after Bloomberg reported that Sony would be doing precisely the opposite, with the Japanese company apparently looking to address the PlayStation 5 shortage by producing more PlayStation 4 consoles.
Earlier this month, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said the Xbox Series X | S is now the best-selling Xbox generation, and indicated the company has worked hard to bolster its supply chains.
